Dance Place

WISH LIST
$100: 1 10-week scholarship to attend after school dance classes;
$500: an "inreach" performance for a local school;
$1500: 1 full scholarship to Dance Place summer camp

Dance Place was a mover and shaker in its first home in Adams Morgan – and it still moves and shakes at its permanent site in the Brookland neighborhood where founder, Carla Perlo, has made it a magnet for artists of all disciplines. Dance Place nurtures a professional dance community in DC, develops committed audiences for dance, and is helping to revitalize the 8th Street, NE corridor. Forty eight weeks a year, the complex hosts performances of modern dance, traditional African, Step, Tap, Hip Hop, and others, often drawing from one of the 30 local companies and 3 artists-in-residence that call Dance Place home.Tickets are available on a sliding scale and no one who wishes to attend is turned away. Dance Place is also a world-class school, supporting pre-professional dancers and programs for kids – a 7-week summer camp, after school classes, Resident Youth Performing Companies, and the Next Generation program for at-risk children and teens (some 10,000 are served annually). And so it is not surprising that, for its continued excellence and support of Washington-area dance, Dance Place has been honored (among others) by the Cultural Alliance of Washington, TouchDC, the Mayor’s Arts Award, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Won’t you help Dance Place extend its reach for many years to come?
