Jewish Youth Philanthropy Institute

WISH LIST
$500: philanthropic match for 100 teens in a 1-session youth program;
$1000: matching funds for 2 grade 8/9 teens;
$3000: staff stipend and fees for a service learning program

The moral imperative is clear: “repair the world.” And the means to effect that imperative is provided by the Jewish Youth Philanthropy Institute. Teens learn the principles of effective philanthropy by participating in the full grant-making process: reviewing proposals from worthy non-profits, participating in site visits, asking questions about an organization’s mission, needs, resources, operations, and effectiveness, and then deliberating about allocations. Half of the dollars are the teens’ contributions; the other half are matching funds from JYPI. And the combination yields results: significant funds are available for distribution; immediate assistance is provided to needy charities; and students develop leadership skills, knowledge about their communities, and experience in philanthropy that will bear fruit for years to come. Since its inception, 1,025 teens have participated in JYPI programs, making grants of more than $360,000 to some 120 local, national, and international organizations. JYPI also offers other youth philanthropy and service learning programs for teens in grades 8-12, and more would like to participate. Your matching funds mean the birth of a new generation of philanthropists.
