CityDance presents Christopher K. Morgan + Dancers at Velocity

CityDance Ensemble
The Washington DC premiere of CityDance Artist-In-Residence Christopher K. Morgan's 2006 work Tarantella will be presented in three performances of the 2011 Velocity DC Dance Festival. Following the highly successful presentation of his 2010 Metro DC Dance Award winning work +1/-1 in the 2010 Festival, Morgan is thrilled to share this exuberant piece with the Washington DC audience. Interested in how the world of classical ballet transformed the Tarantella from its percussive and tribal roots to a soft and ethereal dance, Morgan takes inspiration from the traditional Neapolitan music of the washerwomen that is at the origins of Tarantella in the creation of this work. Utilizing imagery from classical ballet, some of the traditions of the city of Naples, and the music itself, the piece is an explosive celebration of a very old tradition, with a modern twist that honors the roots of the dance.
