As part of this effort, we manage a small wetland plant nursery where we grow and care for many of the plants used in this restoration work. Join AWS for our 24th annual Earth Day Cleanup and Celebration of the Anacostia River.
More than 20 different cleanup sites throughout the area will be available to choose from by the end of February.
All volunteers are invited to join us for the celebration that follows at Bladensburg Waterfront Park. There will be free food and drink, live music, exhibitors and speakers!

Meeting Location: Malcolm X Avenue and 2nd Street SE, just off of 295 and close to the Congress Heights Metro.
Volunteers will be working to restore the natural splendor of one of Washington, DC's most neglected wooded areas. By removing trash, debris, and invasive speies, volunteers will be protecting our trees, wildlife, and rivers -- and making the park a place for all to enjoy.
Gloves, bags, and lunch will be provided. Wear good shoes and clothes you can get dirty!

Meeting Location: We will be meeting at the University of Maryland in Lot C2. Parking is available for free in all of the C lots, but AWS staff members will be waiting for you in Lot C2.
We will be installing a rain garden at Woods Hall at the University of Maryland. Heavy lifting, digging, walking, etc. are required. This will be physically demanding work. If you think this may be a problem, we encourage you to join us for another event. Because of the nature of the work, long pants and boots are required. Individuals with previous gardening and planting experience are preferred.

Join AWS and the DC Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation for the third annual cleanup in honor of Surfrider volunteer David Stemper.
We will be meeting at Bladensburg Waterfront Park. The park is located at 4601 Annapolis Rd., Bladensburg, MD, right past the Peace Cross and the intersections of Rt. 1, 450, and 201.
We will be cleaning up the Anacostia River right near Bladensburg Waterfront Park! Canoes and kayaks will be provided by AWS, but please feel free to bring your own. All supplies and materials needed will be provided. Just bring yourself and a friend, and be prepared to have a fun, rewarding summer evening in honor of a great volunteer!

WS has been working to restore a wetland site along the Anacostia River adjacent to Fort Lincoln Cemetery. Join us for the final step in the process -- planting native wetland species including wild rice and arrow arum!
