May 2005, after more than four years of performing in other venues and a hugely successful capital campaign, Woolly Mammoth opened the doors of its first permanent home - a 265-seat, courtyard-style theater in the heart of downtown Washington, DC, where the company pursues its long-range vision of becoming the epicenter of challenging new theater in America.
Woolly Mammoth has received over 181 Helen Hayes Award nominations 30 Helen Hayes Awards, including six Charles MacArthur Awards for Outstanding New Play.
The Outside Woolly program has been honored with the Washington Post Award for Outstanding Community Service.
Woolly Mammoth has twice received the Mayor's Arts Award for Excellence and the theatre was awarded a 2005 Otto Réné Castillo Award for Political Theatre.
Woolly is now in its 32nd season as one of DC's most popular theaters. Instead of looking back on our many achievements during this time, Woolly is instead using this time to look forward to the next 30 years, and looking for ways to improve this already nationally celebrated theater company.
