Volunteer Opportunities

Top Banana Home Delivered Groceries, Inc.

Volunteer Coordinator: Phyllis Courlander, topbanana2@comcast.net, 301-340-0991

Description of Volunteer Opportunities/Responsibilities:
Comparative Shopper – Top Banana Home Delivered Groceries is committed to keeping the prices that our clients pay for groceries comparable to Giant, Safeway and Peapod. We maintain our own storehouse and purchase groceries wholesale. Conduct shopping cart comparisons from home (Peapod) or at your local Giant or Safeway store. This is a critical function that helps Top Banana serve our clients while staying financially sound.

Communications Coordinator – Help Top Banana move from "best kept secret" to "household name" by developing and coordinating media opportunities and connections. Help us meet and stay in touch with local papers, radio stations and TV channels, develop public service announcements and articles.

Graphic Designer/Artist/Photographer - Help Top Banana create a visually coordinated set of nutrition education and outreach materials that will engage and inspire seniors and caregiving families. We look forward to your fresh ideas and creativity.

Evaluation Consultant - Top Banana has a rich database of information about our clients and service. We are eager to mine this information and establish needed reports. Especially interested in evaluating the impact grocery delivery has on the lives of our clients and in better understanding the changing patterns of individual use and service patterns over time.

Marketing/Outreach Consultant - Help us develop an outreach plan and appropriate outreach tools to make homebound seniors, caregiving families and referral sources aware of our unique style of grocery delivery and comfortable with requesting assistance. How best can we use limited resources? track community contacts? find and encourage the many needy seniors who are hidden inside their homes?

Board of Directors – Join the Top Banana leadership and help our organization support the independence and dignity of older adults by meeting their essential need for food and supplies. Meetings held third Wednesday of each month, 8:30 – 10; in Hyattsville.
