Our Daily Bread

Volunteer Coordinator: Christina Garris, food@ODBfairfax.org, 703-273-8829

Description of Volunteer Opportunities/Responsibilities:
Our Daily Bread is a volunteer-based organization. We maintain a very small, part-time staff, so having a stable of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers is crucial to our ability to help working families in our community. Our ongoing volunteer needs include: Food Coordinators to organize a team to collect food and make deliveries to our food clients; people to make emergency food deliveries to clients; financial assistance intake workers; financial literacy mentors and class instructors; office volunteers; and development volunteers to help us with fundraising activities. Special volunteer opportunities that arise during the year include: event staff; food drive assistance; and information booth staff. For information on our current volunteer needs, visit: http://www.our-daily-bread.org/Volunteer.html.

Ideas for a Team or Group Activity: Our Daily Bread has an on-going need for groups to collect food and deliver it to our Food Program clients. We also occasionally need groups to weigh food in our food pantry and groups to help put together large mailings. Food Drives to help stock our pantry are always welcome. Our Financial Literacy program has an on-going need for volunteers to teach budget classes and serve as financial mentors for our clients. Training is provided. We always welcome volunteers who can provide professional advice in the areas of marketing, design, and grant writing.

Suggestions for a Drive to Benefit this Organization: We have an urgent need for non-perishable food items in our food pantry. An alternative would be a monetary donation drive to purchase grocery gift cards for our Food clients or a grocery gift card drive for cards in denominations of $20-$25.
