Description of Volunteer Opportunities/Responsibilities:
INDIVIDUAL OPPORTUNITIES

Shelter Volunteer
Provide direct service to shelter clients. Answer Hotline, provide support to individuals/families in crisis, provide information and assist staff in the day to day operations of the shelter.

Children's Volunteer
Assist with day time or evening child care during special events such as weekly support groups, weekly parenting classes or monthly dinner programs.

Administrative Support Volunteer
Assist with special projects, answering phones, mailings and meeting preparation, trainings, and other administrative tasks as needed.

Grocery Shopper
Support Doorways' families by assisting with weekly grocery shopping for the Family Home and Safehouse.

Storage Volunteer
Our storage room serves on average 75 individuals on a daily basis and needs to be clean, organized, and running efficiently!

Interpreter
Looking to use your language talents? Many of Doorways clients' primary language is not English!

Court Advocate Volunteer
Weekday volunteer position to support and accompany domestic violence clients to court and legal appointments. Roster is currently full!

Education and Outreach Volunteer
Support Doorways and connect with the community by tabling at events, flyering at the Metro, giving presentations, and planning efforts for Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Homelessness Awareness Month.

Special Events Committee and Volunteer
Assist with the planning of our events and provide support on the day of events.

Types of Volunteers Needed: Adult-individual; Adult-group; Teen (13 and up)-individual; Teen (13 and up)-group; Youth (12 and under)-individual; Youth (12 and under)-group


Training Requirements: Any potential volunteer is required to attend a monthly Volunteer Information Night, held the firstTuesday of each month. Email or call Simone Schonenberger, Volunteer Coordinator, 703-522-8858 x 33 to reserve your spot!

Those wishing to volunteer with clients are required to participate in the following: Volunteer Information Night, 32 hours of training plus 12 hours of on the job training, Background Check


Hours Needed: Weekday; Weekday Evening; Weekend Day; After School.
