Art Enables

WISH LIST: $100: afternoon coffee breaks for participants for a full year; $500: a wide range of art supplies; $1000: Framing costs for 25 fabulous artworks at the in-house frame shop

Here’s a great concept: an entrepreneurial arts program in which adults with developmental or mental disabilities (or both) create "outsider" and folk art while developing artistic and life skills, gaining confidence, achieving self-expression, and earning income from the sale of their work--all at the same time. The only program of its kind in the region, Art Enables lets adults explore their common talent for the visual and work with a wide range of quality materials under the guidance of professional artists. The finished product is marketed at exhibits in the studio and at outside venues, through local retailers and via AE online, where each artist also has his or her own web page. Participants receive 60% of the sales of individual pieces and flat fees for card and poster designs. For many, this is their first and only source of income. Great results? You bet! Last year participants exhibited their artwork at no fewer than 18 city and regional venues, and local retailers carried their gift items, greeting cards, and calendars. Art enables those with disabilities to have a real second chance--to become professionals in something at which they truly excel. Won’t you be part of this beautiful picture?
