Founded in 1996 by dancer, teacher, and choreographer Lucy Bowen McCauley, whose dual training in music and dance is the hallmark of her choreography, Bowen McCauley Dance is known for its talented corps of dancers and for the intense musicality of its artistic director and founder. Through performances, workshops and community outreach, BMD energizes audiences with its signature style and introduces people of all ages to the joy and beauty of dance. BMD performs regionally, nationally, and locally--at Jacob’s Pillow, festivals in New York City, Mexico and Germany, and here in the DC region at The Kennedy Center, Signature Theatre, Rachel Schlesinger Concert Hall & Arts Center, and the Harman Center for the Arts. The Company offers Spanish/English residencies, master classes, workshops and performances to over 12,000 youth, seniors and people with disabilities, including free weekly dance classes, in collaboration with the Parkinson Foundation, to people with Parkinson Disease and their care-partners in Virginia and Maryland; a free, year-long dance residency to majority-minority students at Kenmore Middle School; and free daytime concerts and instruction to entire Arlington public school populations. Winner of the STAR Award for artistic excellence, Bowen McCauley’s work has been called “courageous and well-crafted” by the Washington Post, which also describes the group as one of the area’s “premier” dance companies. Your spirited participation is invited!
