Just Neighbors Ministry

WISH LIST: $100: helps an eligible immigrant attain employment authorization; $500: helps an immigrant family to be united; $1000: helps an immigrant experiencing domestic violence to live independently from her abuser

Just Neighbors Ministry was born out of a pressing need--to find practical responses to the legal challenges that newcomers face in the US. Focusing on those who meet income-eligibility requirements and have no criminal background, JNM partners with local organizations and volunteers to help low-income immigrants attain lawful permanent residence, work-authorization, citizenship, family reunification, and protection from domestic violence. JNM provides a trusted environment, and staff attorneys offer counsel and representation for abused women and children. The aim is to help them take full advantage of the federal Violence Against Women Act--to navigate the legal system, achieve independent legal status, and break the hold of the abuser who has threatened to withdraw his sponsorship. Community Economic Development for Immigrant Women empowers women to overcome barriers to employment and business ownership: accessing credit, capital, and financial literacy, as well as education about workplace rights and consumer protection, is key. In thirteen years JNM has served nearly 5,000 immigrants from more than 100 countries. The goal is to help an increasing number of newcomers build their own capacity and resources--to be self-sufficient, stable, contributing members of the wider community. Your support means so much here: we are--after all--just neighbors.
