Chesapeake Climate Action Network
WISH LIST: $100: supplies for open houses at the director’s renewable energy home; $500: trees to offset greenhouse gas emissions; $1,000: new recording equipment for the radio show, "Earthbeat. "
Four years ago, when Mike Tidwell realized that his son might inherit a very different world from the one he had enjoyed growing up, he was inspired to create the Chesapeake Climate Action Network to fight global warming full-time. Recognizing that climate change is a global crisis but one that also has local consequences and solutions, CCAN focuses its education and mobilization efforts on Maryland, Virginia, and DC – the first such organization to do so Creativity is CCAN’s strength: frequent open houses at the founder’s 90-percent renewable home demonstrate energy efficiency; “Earthbeat” airs weekly to discuss pertinent issues with local experts, authors, and the public; coalitions of environmental, faith, business, and health groups encourage citizens to work with their legislators to fight for clean energy, a stable climate, and good health. Their grassroots efforts and their passion have allowed CCAN to take a global issue and make it a powerful local one. You, too, can be part of the local solution by offering your support to this dynamic group.
