Community Crisis Services
WISH LIST: $100: eight hours of crisis counseling; $500: one week of emergency housing to prevent homelessness; $1,000: outreach training in suicide prevention at 10 high schools.
Reaching someone who will listen and help: that’s what Community Crisis Services is all about. Begun by a group of concerned citizens to address the community’s growing need for crisis intervention, 1 hotline has now become 14, and 200,000 people have been served in just 3 years. Paid professionals and volunteers work side-by-side, 24/7, serving as trained listeners for those struggling with mental health crises, and saving lives in the process. CCSI’s Homeless Hotline for Prince George’s County is the single point of access for homeless individuals and families seeking vacant shelter beds – and CCSI goes further, providing traveler’s aid, shelter diversion counseling, and emergency motel placements while counselors look for more permanent solutions. An annual conference ensures that crisis services are provided not just through hotlines, but also through community education. 2004 recipient of the Seal of Excellence from Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations, CCSI is saving lives for only a few dollars a call. Your compassionate philanthropy ensures that someone is there when nothing else will do.
