District of Columbia Arts Center
WISH LIST: $100: paint and material to prepare the gallery for a new exhibition; $500: fresh, new banners and signs for the Center; $1,000: 4 new spotlights for the theatre.
A veritable hub of activity for individual artists, community groups, fledgling theatre companies, and professional groups without a home base, District of Columbia Arts Center is an incubator for young, emerging artists and arts groups. DCAC provides a structured environment in which artists not only present their art, but also gain the practical knowledge to succeed in their profession. Finding performance venues, learning about the legal aspects of presentation, increasing their knowledge of fundraising – all these are part of the DCAC experience. Operating an 800 square foot gallery space and a fifty-seat black box theater, DCAC presents 10-12 visual art exhibitions a year, an average of 200 performances (plays, poetry readings, film screenings, open mic nights, recitals), gallery and art talks, workshops, rehearsals, and meetings. A classic grassroots organization (the facility is donated rent free by a local supporter), DCAC is now poised to grow. If you share the belief that a vibrant cultural life enriches everything we do, then step up and offer your support to this extraordinary organization.
