The Theatre Lab School of the Dramatic Arts

WISH LIST: $100: 10 DVDs of magic camp performances for campers on scholarship; $625: full scholarship for 1 camper; $1,000: instructor of Life Stories program for at-risk youth.

Isolated, immigrant middle school girls, kids expelled from school, senior citizens, and people living with HIV/AIDS: everyone has a story to tell, a voice that needs to be heard, a life that’s waiting to be transformed. At Theatre Lab, they get to tell those stories: teamwork and training help them sort through their lives and transform their personal narratives into film or theater. And the self-esteem that comes with creating original works of dramatic art is life-changing. Theatre Lab serves hundreds of youth and adults through its Life Stories program, and hundreds more through classes in acting, directing, playwriting, musical theatre, and drama criticism – now, from its 250-seat home in Gallery Place. Instruction comes from local actors, directors, and playwrights, and each year more than $30,000 in scholarships is granted. Theatre Lab’s founders were recognized as winners of the prestigious Linowes Leadership Award from the Community Foundation as "unsung heroes with a commitment to improving the quality of life in our region" Won’t you help them sing this song?
