Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington
WISH LIST: $100: stocks an emergency food pantry for 1 month; $500: houses 1 family for an entire week $1000: keeps the lights on at the DC house for 10 days
Ronald McDonald House Charities provides a home away from home for the families of critically ill children in treatment at area hospitals. Without these homes – one in DC and one in Northern Virginia – families would camp out in hospital corridors, live in costly hotel rooms, or leave a child when he or she most needs them. Houses include a kitchen, living room, laundry, play areas, and comfortable private rooms. Having basic needs met allows parents to manage a trying situation without wondering where they will sleep or how they will eat: they find respite, focus on their kids, and share their experiences with others. The RMHC Family Room at Children’s National Medical Center also offers a quiet retreat from the stress of the hospital, and the Care Mobile (in collaboration with Kids Mobile Med, Catalogue 2004) brings health care to the under- and un-insured. A capital campaign is currently underway to build a new DC House serving even more families each year. Your support means respite for those who need it.
