An environmentalist at heart and an enterprise practitioner by training, Margie Brand has spent much of her life pursuing a vision that would integrate these two passions. While attending the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, she saw the need for an organization that would bridge the divide between environmental and economic interests – and the blueprint for EcoVentures International was created. EVI provides training and resources to build the capacity of small, community-based environmental and energy enterprises. Some may create hand-made solar panels to charge radios or even to dry coffee, others drip-irrigation systems to grow crops, still others natural dyes, glues, and packaging for products, or environmentally-sustainable fuel-briquettes for heating and cooking. EVI works with local governments, communities, and residents to train, educate, and nurture entrepreneurs, especially youth entrepreneurs, in Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America, North America (there is a program in DC), and Western Europe. Developing socially and environmentally committed practitioners and ambassadors of sustainable development is what EVI is all about. Their world, your world, our world.
