Bright Beginnings
WISH LIST: $500: children's seasonal clothing, including, underwear, socks, and shoes; $1000: monthly sponsored developmentally focused field trips; $2500: 1 year of intensive health, nutrition, and developmental care for a whole family
Imagine a toddler who doesn’t know where she will eat lunch and worries if she will be safe at night. Homeless children growing up on the move are at risk for so many problems, and often begin school with developmental disadvantages that create life-long learning problems. Bright Beginnings is a child development center offering Head Start and Early Head Start education, as well as counseling, speech therapy, and pre-literacy learning. Over 1,000 families have benefited from this comprehensive care, and hundreds more are in need. The addition of an Early Learning Evening Program in 2005 opened doors for 36 homeless and low-income children whose parents are working, job training, or attending school during non-traditional hours. Plans are underway for a second center in Ward 7 or 8, serving 100 infants and toddlers. This East of the River property will be located near public transportation, community/employment services, schools, and essential services. Offering a family a bright beginning can lead to a lifetime of success: your support can start something extraordinary.
