Environmental Film Festival in the Nation's Capital
WISH LIST: $100: compiles a DVD of special films for school audiences; $500: funds a weekday evening screening; $1000: brings 2 filmmakers to DC to participate in post-film discussions
The Environmental Film Festival presents over 100 documentary, feature, animated, archival, experimental, and children’s films during a 12-day March marathon that celebrates the splendor, and vulnerability, of the natural world. Founded in 1993, EFF has become a major annual DC event and the world's largest showcase for environmental films. The festival audience numbers over 20,000, and venues include museums, embassies, cultural institutions, think tanks, theaters, performing arts centers, and schools. An annual free screening at the Warner for 2,000 DC school students, and films at public libraries around the city, extend the Festival's reach to younger audiences. From Academy Award winners like "An Inconvenient Truth," to previously unscreened films, works by international artists, and projects by student filmmakers, the festival is rich and inclusive. Special guests - filmmakers, photographers, genome pioneers, columnists, scientists, and cultural figures - deepen the viewing experience with discussion and debate. As we all contemplate our carbon footprints, the Festival is an opportunity to learn, to be moved, to be the change.
