Arlington Arts Center
WISH LIST: $100: purchases supplies for an 8-week children's class; $500: subsidizes an artist residency for 1 month; $1000: buys enough paint to maintain all gallery walls for 1 year
Growing from a grassroots organization in 1976 to a regionally acclaimed visual arts center today, Arlington Arts Center has made incredible strides – as have the artists who call AAC their home. Committed to supporting new visual artists, educating children and adults alike, and creating residencies in which upcoming creators can thrive, it is a vital element of the cultural world of Greater Washington. Nine galleries enable AAC to present diverse, cutting-edge exhibitions; two Experimental Galleries are dedicated to technological or installation works – a rare, but highly desirable opportunity. AAC’s classes are equally wide-ranging: along with painting and drawing, the center offers classes in public art and photo documentary for teenagers, as well as bilingual adult classes for Spanish, Farsi, Russian, and Hebrew speakers. And for local and international artists alike it can be the next, key stage in their growth: the artists residency program offers affordable studio space, regular exhibition opportunities, and a built-in support system. With your help, so many ideas will become ... works of art.
