FAIR Girls

WISH LIST: $100: 1 awareness education class for DC high schoolers; $500: 1 year of materials for Jewel Girls’ therapeutic workshops; $1000: 1 month of emergency services for an exploited girl

The International Labor Organization estimates that of the millions forced into the sex trade, 50% are children. Traffickers play on the vulnerability of young girls – and their communities often view these girls as criminals rather than victims. FAIR Girls was founded to speak for those who have been, or are at risk of being, trafficked. Through compassionate care, prevention education, and survivor advocacy, FAIR Girls creates opportunities for girls in high-risk communities to become confident, healthy, and safe. Offered at schools, shelters, and detention centers in DC, the Tell Your Friends program teaches girls how to distinguish healthy from unhealthy relationships, redefine stigmas, and develop crucial life skills; in Jewel Girls, teens come together to create unique jewelry and access education, job training, and financial literary programs – in DC, Bosnia, Serbia, Russia, and Uganda. FAIR Girls also offers community training to ensure that trafficked girls are better identified, assisted, and protected – and works to ensure that they receive the support and care they need. We must protect our girls, now and always.
