Arlington Free Clinic

WISH LIST: $100: glucometer and testing strips for 1 diabetic patient for 2 months; $500: 8 inoculations of the hepatitis A vaccine; $1000: 10 Thin Prep Pap tests with HPV typing

Arlington Free Clinic provides health care to 1,650 Arlingtonians a year – at no cost. Many clients work at one or more low-wage jobs; others have lost their jobs in the ongoing economic downturn. None has health insurance. To serve them, AFC draws on a network of over 570 volunteers, including 170 physicians and nurse practitioners, who can provide primary and specialty care, women's health and mental health services, and patient education – enabling clients to take control of their own well-being. AFC’s pharmacy fills over 19,000 prescriptions annually, from antibiotics for ear infections to life-saving drugs for cancer and heart disease. The recipient of Bank of America's Neighborhood Excellence Award, AFC has been honored repeatedly for its exceptional commitment to the community. Founded and supported by volunteers – from the doctors and nurses who care for patients to the artists whose work brightens the hallways – AFC is an ideal example of a community coming together to solve a pressing social problem. Won't you join this essential team?
