Dance Place

WISH LIST: $150: 10-week scholarship to attend after-school dance classes; $500: 1 InReach performance for a local school; $1500: 1 full scholarship to Dance Place summer camp

In its permanent home in the Brookland neighborhood of DC, Dance Place is a hub of activity where a 45-week presenting season, bustling dance school, and neighborhood cultural center thrive on each others' energy. The complex hosts performances of modern, traditional African, step, tap, and hip hop, often drawing on the 30 local, 12 touring, and 3 resident companies that call Dance Place home. It's also a world-class school, supporting everything from pre-professional training for dancers to a full range of courses for kids, including resident youth performing companies for more serious young dancers. Its NEXTgeneration program offers (deeply discounted or free) after-school academic enrichment and dance classes, job training for teenagers, and a summer arts camp for at-risk youngsters. Reaching out to DC schools, and bringing students to free performances, are just what it means to be engaged in community life. Winner of the 2011 DC Mayor’s Arts Award for Outstanding Contribution to Arts Education, Dance Place is theater, school, and community resource – an amazing, creative combination.
