Women Thrive Worldwide
WISH LIST: $100: 1 action alert to raise women's voices; $500: support for the advocacy work of local partners; $1000: trip for a leader from the developing world to tell her story to US policy makers
Worldwide, women are at the greatest risk of being poor; yet they are also more likely to spend their limited income on food, education, and healthcare. Since 1998, Women Thrive Worldwide has improved economic opportunity for women by educating US decision-makers, advocating for better resources for women and children, and supporting local, grassroots women leaders. Itself a leader in national awareness and advocacy, WTW played a vital role in developing the International Violence Against Women Act and will form new partnerships with women’s community-based organizations throughout the world to ensure its successful implementation. Through advocacy and partnerships, WTW has protected food aid during humanitarian crises, promoted resources that support agriculture and prevent famines, and pushed US embassies to budget for women’s empowerment, anti-violence programs, and equality up-front. In building a community of compassionate activists, it relies on this “toolbox”: shared stories from women in developing countries, alliances with agencies, businesses, and women’s groups, and mobilization of a grassroots network. Join the community – and give millions of girls and women worldwide a safe, promising future.
