The Writer's Center

WISH LIST: $500: 1 fellowship for an emerging writer; $1000: 3 scholarships for workshop participants; $5000: a year of free workshops for 15 veterans

A small hive buzzing with activity, The Writer’s Center nourishes writers of all ages, from youngsters who are just learning to tell their stories, to emerging writers eager to hone their skills and share their work with new audiences. Believing that the craft of writing is unique among the arts for its ability to touch on all aspects of the human experience, The Writer’s Center provides over 60 free public literary events a year: readings, small festivals, performances, panel discussions, lectures, and seminars. It showcases emerging writers, and has hosted some extraordinary ones in its 33-year history, from the poet Allen Ginsberg, to the extraordinary science-fiction novelist Ursula Le Guin. Two hundred fifty workshops are available for writers at every level, and some writers go on to publish, and be honored, for works of their own – becoming New York Times bestsellers and National Endowment for the Arts fellows. Igniting the passions of writers and audiences throughout the region, The Writers Center keeps the joy of writing alive and well.
