Child Center and Adult Services, Inc.
WISH LIST: $250: play therapy equipment; $500: short-term, sliding fee therapy for an uninsured client; $7500: counseling 10 uninsured new mothers with postpartum depression
It often feels like darkness to those at risk for mental illness: pain, social stigma, and barriers to service confront them every day. Child Center and Adult Services offers high-quality mental health care for low-income children and adults at three primary healthcare clinics, where bilingual therapists are always just a few doors away. In addition to office-based psychotherapy (available on a sliding scale), CCAS offers community-based projects that serve hard-to-reach, low-income, high-risk clients. Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies provides mental health therapy to low-income, uninsured, pregnant women and new mothers suffering from depression – bringing support and therapy directly to women in their homes and communities. AMIGO offers school-based mental health for children in selected public schools and links families to needed services. Community Cares reaches people who traditionally lie outside the mainstream of mental health care. And the Positive Aging Project reaches over 200 seniors a year with short-term therapy, support groups, workshops and referral assistance. Winner of numerous awards – from the Washington Area Women’s Foundation and the Maryland Psychiatric Society's Foundation – CCAS helps families move outward into the light.
