Food for Others

WISH LIST: $100: canned protein (tuna, corned beef) for 100 families; $500: emergency milk and eggs for 140 households; $1000: 85 turkeys for holiday assistance

Food for Others has witnessed the consequences of the recession first-hand – in its clients' ever-growing numbers and ever-shrinking incomes. Dedicated to the distribution of free food to the hungry of Northern Virginia, FFO has served more than 2,600 new families at its warehouse this year and everyone’s needs are far more acute. But FFO has kept up with the demand. As the largest free food distributor in the area, it is the first stop for families in crisis and a key source of information about employment, housing, and childcare assistance. FFO not only provides emergency food to those without it or without the resources to purchase it, but also provides bulk supplies to community organizations and supplementary food at 15 sites in low-income neighborhoods. Moreover, FFO creates opportunities for neighbors to help one another in times of need: last year, volunteers logged over 23,000 hours, delivering supplies and leading drives. With your help, the FFO team will be sure that no one is left hungry and no one is left out.
