Wider Opportunities for Women
WISH LIST: $100: 2 weeks of gasoline for a woman starting a new job; $500: 2 weeks of child care for a mother in a job training program; $1000: tuition for 4 teens in a jobs and education workshop
For nearly half a century, Wider Opportunities for Women has worked in its home community of DC, and as a strong voice throughout the country, to fight for resources that prepare women and girls for jobs that will support them and their families. WOW has improved women's access to education and training, opened doors to non-traditional jobs, expanded opportunities for girls, and linked women to the work supports they need to achieve economic self-sufficiency. Programs emphasize literacy, technical and nontraditional skills, welfare-to-work transition, and career development. A new national project, the Elder Economic Security Initiative, coupled with a teen and adult Connections to Careers program, broaden WOW's local and national agenda to encompass economic security across the generations. America’s families will not make ends meet until women’s work is well paid and all low-income workers have access to jobs that provide economic security – and WOW is working to make it happen. If this mission wows you, consider a contribution that is sure to improve the lives of struggling families, right here where you live.
