Operation Homefront DC Metro Chapter
WISH LIST: $100: baby formula & diapers for 2 weeks; $500: food for 1 military family for 1 month; $1500: one month apartment rental and utilities
More than 300,000 troops and military families in the metropolitan region lead quiet lives of sacrifice in service to their country. Their faith and perseverance are tested every day – and they are tested emotionally, logistically, and financially. For those with an average base pay of $32,000, salaries barely cover basic necessities, and needs are compounded when a parent is deployed or injured. Operation Homefront steps in when the unexpected occurs: a car breaks down, a major appliance stops working, a family emergency requires travel – and suddenly the family budget can’t take it. Operation Homefront acts as a problem-solver and facilitator to provide swift emergency assistance: goods, financial aid, and skilled hands-on support. Last year alone it filled 600 urgent requests for food, lodging, rent, mortgage assistance, home and auto repairs, and other critical needs. It also brings the stories and needs of deployed troops, wounded warriors, and their families more fully into public awareness. Supporters know that they are doing their part by giving back – to those who sacrifice so much.
