Alzheimer's Family Day Center

WISH LIST: $100: 1 day of classes and care at the center; $500: 1 week of physical therapy; $1000: 1 music therapy program for those with mid-stage Alzheimer’s disease

Of the more than five million Americans with Alzheimer’s disease, 70% live at home with family and friends, and the number is expected to grow exponentially. As the only licensed day center in the region focused specifically on persons with dementia, AFDC is dedicated to caring for them, and providing respite and support for their families. Ten hours a day, five days a week, those with mid-stage Alzheimer’s stimulate their minds through art and music therapy, mental aerobics, outings, and Tai Chi; those with more advanced dementia receive help with eating, walking, and personal care. An Early Intervention Program hosts a weekly meeting, counseling, and support groups for individuals recently diagnosed, and the Center offers free educational opportunities to caregivers as well as scholarships to families who could not otherwise afford its services. With AFDC’s help – and yours – Alzheimer’s clients can remain at home with their loved ones and, in the face of a debilitating disease, remain as well as possible for as long as possible. That means a lot.
