Invitations to perform in Asia, Europe, Latin and Central America, commissions to create work from the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian, and the Corcoran – Dana Tai Soon Burgess & Co. is much sought after, and rightly so. The only modern dance company in DC rooted in an Asian American aesthetic, the company uses dance as a creative medium for enhancing social and cultural understanding. Audiences and critics have lavished praise on works ranging from the experience of Korean immigrants in America to a cross-cultural relationship at the end of World War II. Audience accessibility and interaction are important, so the artistic process always involves open rehearsals, discussion, and outreach to youth audiences. Residencies and programs for DC schools and dance programs are also offered through the Educational Youth Program. Winner of seven Metro DC Dance Awards since 2001 and the Mayor's Arts Award for Excellence in an Artistic Discipline in 2005, the company values support from audience members and potential audience members – like you.
