Second Chance Employment Services

WISH LIST: $100: travel to and from 12 interviews & appointments; $500: wardrobe for a new job; $1000: 2 computer stations for client training

Each year, four million American women are victims of domestic violence and one in three adult women experiences at least one physical assault by a partner. These women have no hope, little confidence, no job, and – when they separate from abusive partners – no financial security. At Second Chance Employment Services, the idea is to turn this picture around. Providing interview coaching, pre- and post-placement services, and bilingual and translation assistance as needed, SCES places financially at-risk women in meaningful employment that can really change their lives. Workshops teach interview skills and assist applicants in resume writing and filling out government and private sector forms. Applicants receive instruction in job searching, selecting appropriate workplace clothing, and engaging in successful business communications. Pro bono legal services, dentistry, salon makeovers, and even plastic surgery are offered through SCES’s partners, who also serve as sources for job placement. SCES helps women rebuild their confidence and gives them the support they need to believe in a future free of abuse. Doesn’t everyone deserve a second chance?
