Compass

WISH LIST: $100: online survey tool for teams; $500: orientation for Compass clients; $1000: training for 10 project teams to advise nonprofit clients

Since 2001, Compass has developed an exceptional track record of delivering invaluable capacity-building consulting services to nonprofits: 900 volunteers from top MBA graduate schools have led projects with over 100 clients from the Greater Washington region. The value of their time and labor averages $105,000 per project, but Compass provides all services at no charge. At the end of a project, non-profit leaders have an objective and clear understanding of their own organization and a strong plan for moving into the future. In turn, each member of the Compass team develops a deep and personal commitment to the non-profit world — perhaps for the first time. Every non-profit is different and Compass makes sure that each one has the time and team to make a real difference: by carefully screening applications from non-profits, selecting a Project Leader to manage and motivate the team, and recruiting and training volunteers with the right education and experience. Smaller non-profits truly flourish with high-level guidance and long-term support. A gift to Compass is a gift to all of them.
