Washington Improv Theater
WISH LIST: $100: space rental and instructor fee for 2 free workshops; $500: director fee for an ensemble piece; $1000: rehearsal/performance space for one performance run
Washington Improv Theater presents a year-long season of performances, sharing improvisational theater with thousands of audience members. The joy of taking part in a collaborative process, of creating moments that will never be performed again, is central to the experience of actors and audience members alike. And WIT players do more than perform with great expertise; they bring passion and skill to teaching their craft to others. Students unleash their creativity, learn active listening, brainstorming, supportive play, collaboration, and self-awareness. WIT provides pro bono and low-cost workshops to partners who otherwise might not have access to them – from children at a Boys & Girls Club in Southeast, to seniors at a housing facility in Foggy Bottom. Ticket prices for performances are purposely kept low (in the $10 to $15 range) and half-price tickets, as well as free improv “jams,” are part of the mix. Winner of a 2009 Helen Hayes Award for artistic direction, WIT makes improv a creative outlet that’s available to all. You can make sure it stays that way.
