CollegeTracks

WISH LIST: $100: financial aid counseling for 1 senior; $500: college admissions and financial aid counseling for 1 student all year; $1000: college success counseling for 3 students all year

Montgomery County boasts one of the finest public school systems in the nation, yet some students never go to college. Standardized tests, application essays, and financial aid forms can prove daunting to low-income, first-generation-to-college students and families. CollegeTracks ensures that motivated students have the support they need to apply to college and the tools they need to succeed there. Working one-on-one with over 550 students, it helps them articulate their goals, choose the right schools, prepare for admissions tests, and even negotiate financial aid packages. With a daily presence at Bethesda-Chevy Chase and Wheaton High School, staff members answer questions – or nag students to meet critical deadlines. The nagging must work: 99% of CollegeTracks seniors were accepted to college or vocational school and 50% were admitted to four-year colleges. Students also receive pre-college coaching in study skills and financial literacy, as well as personal and academic support throughout their college years. These young scholars have the talent and drive to be college graduates. You can give them the tools to succeed.
