Community of Hope
WISH LIST: $100: services in 1 birthing room for a day; $500: comprehensive medical, dental, and mental health services for 1 patient for a year; $1000: 3 weeks of affordable housing for a DC family
Community of Hope is about just that: bringing hope to the communities that need it most. Since 1975, COH has served the acute health care and housing needs of DC’s low-income, underserved, and homeless families. The Adams Morgan-based health center offers preventive care, adult, pre-natal, birthing service, and pediatric care, as well as an on-site dental clinic and teen clinic; and the Family Health and Birth Center in Carver Terrace, the District’s only freestanding birth center, provides well-woman care, adult primary care, and breastfeeding support in addition to birthing services. A housing program serves over 200 families, helping them access both safe and stable housing and employment. Parents can take classes in literacy and life skills, while their children have access to tutoring and mentoring, art and gardening, and field trips. For those who desire it, COH also provides spiritual and emotional support from members of the faith community and on-staff licensed clinical social workers. Ultimately, we’re all one community: let's ensure that hope, health, and homes are accessible to every member of it.
