DC Appleseed Center for Law and Justice
The common thread is this: figure out what’s broken, find the underlying cause, and use the legal system or public advocacy to fix it. DC Appleseed Center for Law and Justice conducts studies of serious local issues, researches and analyzes them, develops and publishes recommendations for systemic reform, and advocates for the solution. The problems addressed are often both big (read, systemic) and manageable (read, subject to improvement by thoughtful, solution-oriented folks). An effective voice for the public interest, DC Appleseed has consistently, and often successfully, addressed a wide-range of tough, public policy questions: how to improve the District's child support system, ensure that residents of Anacostia benefit from development along the River (jobs and affordable housing are key), address the needs of working poor families, improve the system of prevention and care for HIV/AIDS, get lead out of the drinking water, and ensure that DC gets congressional voting representation. Whatever the topic, DC Appleseed gets to the root cause of tough local issues and works to remedy the problem. You, too, can be part of the solution.
