WISH LIST
$250: breakfast, lunch and dinner each day for 1 person in the 28-day Intensive Recovery Program;

$4,500: sponsorship of a year-long volunteer InnKeeper

Samaritan Inns was founded in 1985 to help homeless and addicted people transform their lives. Each year, 550 men and women enter the recovery process, and more than 80% emerge sober and drug-free after the first step, an intense month-long program based on Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous principles. Many move on to a six-month transitional living program, where they practice drug-free and alcohol-free lives, learning to manage their money and hold a job. The final step, a two-year program where clients live in cooperative apartments, reinforces recovery. Samaritan Inns graduates are responsible, working citizens: many reconnect with their families, pursue higher education, and purchase their own homes. Some graduates (and other persons in recovery) even serve on the staff. 500 volunteers work with the program every year, and since the late ‘80s, people have traveled from around the country to see the recovery program in action. In 2001 the organization began mentoring similar programs in other cities to help disseminate the model. Samaritan Inns has received two honorable mentions in the Washington Post’s Award for Nonprofit Excellence and its president has been named by the Meyer Foundation as one of Washington’s Leaders for the 21st Century. This kind of excellence clearly merits your support!
