Bowen McCauley Dance
Founded in 1996 by dancer, teacher, and choreographer Lucy Bowen McCauley, whose dual training in music and dance--at Interlochen and the Joffrey Ballet--is the hallmark of her choreography, Bowen McCauley Dance is known for its talented, ten-member corps of dancers and for its intense musicality (live music whenever possible!). The company performs at the International Dance Festival in New York City, Jacob's Pillow in Massachusetts and--regularly--at “home” at The Kennedy Center and the Gunston Arts Center in Arlington. Committed to bringing dance to the entire community, BMD participates in Arlington’s Humanities Project, an arts-in-education program of Arlington County Cultural Affairs and the public schools, offering lecture/demonstrations, residencies and master classes to schoolchildren. Students in other Virginia counties, and in Montgomery County, are also participants. Free family concerts at Arlington's Arts Al Fresco Summer Series and at the Millennium Stage involve families and young audience members, and a special senior matinee brings dance to seniors at the Greater Washington Jewish Community Center. Winner of the STAR Award for artistic excellence, Bowen McCauley’s work has been called “courageous and well-crafted” by the Washington Post, which also describes the group as one of the area’s “premier” dance companies. Your spirited participation is invited!
