Language ETC

It's double trouble: English classes cost money that many Latino laborers can't afford, and they also require time that many just don't have. Luckily, Language ETC is there to help foreign-born adults--that's one in six DC residents--learn English and learn to navigate their world. With over 200 volunteers per trimester, LETC provides affordable, high-quality programs to over 2,500 students annually: English as a Second Language (ESL, basic through level five), Spanish literacy, GED preparation, and computer instruction. Understanding the need for flexibility, classes are offered weekday mornings and evenings, as well as all day Saturday and Sunday. No willing student is turned away. Special courses such as conversation classes and book clubs are offered in the summer. Other outstanding services include one-on-one tutoring, a Multimedia Language Lab, a Job Bank open Sundays for resumé writing and job search seminars, and housing and small business programs (free childcare is provided). Operating on a shoestring, LETC shows that it's possible to accomplish a lot with a little: last year, almost 90% of ESL students advanced to the next level, a very important achievement, indeed. Learning a language can be the first step toward achieving the American dream. LETC invites you to help make this dream a reality.
