Many adult day health care services are not equipped to handle the needs of Alzheimer’s patients, especially those in the late stages of the disease. Constant wandering, physical deterioration, and increased need for assistance with daily activities make these patients ineligible for treatment at some centers. AFDC offers support for people in all stages of AD and, importantly, for family caregivers who care at night and work the next day. Services for those with mid-stage Alzheimer’s, like art and music therapy, mind aerobics trivia, outings, and Tai Chi, all stimulate the brain Participants with more advanced dementia receive help with eating, walking, and personal care. The idea is to promote ongoing independence, confidence, and opportunities for reminiscing, and to preserve remaining skills. High staff-to-participant ratios, an AFDC scholarship program for families who could not otherwise afford care, and compassionate service – all these help people with AD remain at home and, along with their families, reach their potential in the face of a truly debilitating disease. Your caring support is much needed
