GreenHOME

WISH LIST
$100: 1 hour of technical consultation from a green design consultant;
$500: 2-hour workshop on making affordable housing green;
$750: research on affordable green materials.

GreenHOME works to make low-income homes healthy, energy efficient, and environmentally friendly. But bucking the tide can be tough: resistance to change, lack of experience with new methods and materials, few legislative incentives, and little demand from the occupants of affordable housing–all these keep old practices in place. Still, merging green building practices with affordable housing makes superb sense since a green home is more efficient in its use of energy and water, healthier in material choices, and friendlier to family budgets, human health, and the environment. So GreenHOME’s mission is to use proven expertise to transform the affordable housing industry in metro-DC, making green building standard practice in the construction of low income housing. Working in partnership with a broad array of organizations to provide expertise and technical assistance, GreenHOME consults with affordable housing projects, conducts seminars with developers, architects, and government officials, and hosts best practices workshops for consultants. If you care about housing and the environment, this is a place to call home.
