Founded in 1998 by two Yale undergraduates who saw students as the ultimate community navigators for those needing assistance with employment, housing, literacy, and other needs, National Student Partnerships offers free, comprehensive services to clients. For many, NSP is the stop of last resort – the place they go when other options are exhausted. The typical NSP client is recently unemployed, living in a shelter or transitional housing, struggling to find appropriate services and make ends meet. So students from area universities (Howard, Georgetown, George Washington) act as client advocates to support and empower them, and locate the help they need. Last year, students provided 4,790 individual services to clients, including 527 resumés created, 135 interviews secured, 84 job placements made, 56 placements into education and training programs arranged. And the students, too, are forever affected by the experience. Winners of the 2004 Samuel S. Beard Award for Greatest Public Service by an Individual 35 or Under, the co-founders clearly understand the power of giving. Your generosity keeps the spirit of public service alive.
