Around the globe, civil society organizations work tirelessly to ensure the
universal rights to freedom, social justice, and peace for their communities. But
government-controlled media, poor infrastructure, and a lack of resources often
work against these activists, isolating them from the rest of the world. The
internet has transformative potential here, but all too often those who need
access cannot get it. Kabissa is changing that by providing technology support
and expertise designed specifically to meet the needs of African organizations. Free or affordable internet services
(web hosting, email, online newsletters, discussion groups), networking opportunities, and free training materials
and workshops on using and integrating the internet into their work, enable members to advocate for their causes
on a previously unimaginable scale. Kabissa’s Time to Get Online training program combines self-learning
materials with hands-on workshops. And access to the Information and Communications Technology Resource
Center keeps everyone plugged in. Kabissa has grown from 10 members in 1999 to 1,000 today, and these in turn
serve thousands more throughout Africa. This is important work: get connected!
