Catalogue for Philanthropy: Greater Washington Recognized with Gold and Silver Wilmer Shields Rich Awards
WASHINGTON, DC; March 24, 2008 —The Harman Family Foundation has been named a GOLD and SILVER award winner for excellence in communications by the 2008 Wilmer Shields Rich Awards Program. Sponsored by the Council on Foundations, the awards program recognizes effective communications efforts to increase public awareness of foundations and corporate giving programs. The Harman Family Foundation received the awards for its Catalogue for Philanthropy: Greater Washington print Catalogue and Website,

Entries to the awards program included annual or biennial reports, magazines/periodicals, special reports, public information campaigns and websites. This year, 213 entries were submitted to the awards program. This is the fourth year in a row that the Catalogue has been recognized with a gold and/or silver award.
The award will be presented at Philanthropy’s Vision: A Leadership Summit, in National Harbor, Maryland, on Monday, May 5, 2008.

Reviewers evaluate the applications for distinction, merit, cost-effectiveness, and financial transparency, resulting in a carefully vetted list of trustworthy nonprofit organizations. In less than five years, the Catalogue has helped featured charities raise more than $5.3 million dollars from new donors.
